As a city, I loved Chikmagalur, not because of the coffee estates but the people behind them. As a tourist hot-spot Chikmagalur is definitely going to be a preferred destination over its famous cousin Madikeri in a few years because the people here have really understood hospitality. One such gentleman who impressed us with his impeccable hospitality and genuine warmth is Mr. Dayanand.
Dayanand has flair and flamboyance which not only shows in his choice of clothes and drinks but also in his homestay. It is an authentic homestay with Dayanand’s family staying in the same building and his plantation workers helping out with odd jobs. Though his staffs are primarily plantation workers, they too like Dayanand, understand hospitality and are always at your beck and call.
Dayanand’s homestay is one of the best in Chikmagalur with its structure and interiors being an extension of his personality. The main homestay building has traditional room division on the upper and lower floor while the outhouse is reserved for bigger groups. There are sit-out areas for guests to enjoy the climate and soak in the goodness. The washrooms are adorned by modern fittings which might remind you of a luxury hotel.
If you want to experience real Chikmagalur hospitality at a Malnad Gowda’s house Dayanand’s homestay is the place to visit!
