Sometimes, some hot dal and fragrant rice is all you need. A fan of cricket, our in-home cook at SaffronStays Thanedhar Estate, Vipan hits a sixer with this simple mix dal recipe.
Ingredients:
- 30 gms toor dal
- 30 gms chana dal
- 40 gms black dal
- 1.5 cup water
- Salt
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- 2 bay leaves
- 5-7 cinnamon sticks
- 2 red chillies
- 1 tbsp ginger paste
- 2 chopped onions
- 1 tbsp dal masala
- 2 chopped tomatoes
Method:
- Soak all the pulses for 30 minutes. Cook in a pressure cooker with water, salt and turmeric powder for 2 whistles.
- In a skillet pan, add some oil, cumin seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, chillies and ginger paste. Cook this on low flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Add onions, dal masala and tomatoes and cook until the onions caramelise. Add this mix to the cooker and cook it for 7-8 minutes.
